Portfolio Workshop for Middle School Students
This 12 class workshop is designed for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students interested in developing and strengthening their art portfolios for NYC’s specialized arts high school applications. Students will use a range of materials including graphite pencils, ink, collage, and paint on paper to make figure drawings, still-life drawings, self-portraits, and illustration-based drawings like a “Fantastical Sandwich”.

Instructor:
Joseph Hart is an artist and educator that has taught drawing, painting, and illustration classes at Rhode Island School of Design, Penland School of Craft, and The City College of New York. He is a portfolio reviewer for RISD’s admissions department, and has served as a juror for the Scholastic Art Awards. He is also a parent volunteer at LaGuardia High School where he manages their Visiting Artist Program and helps coordinate their in-house college fair and portfolio reviews.
Nathan Sensel is an artist and educator that teaches drawing, illustration, graphic design, and comics classes at The City College of New York and Parsons School of Design. He has also worked in the education departments at The Brooklyn Museum, Museum of Art & Design, and MoMA. Nate is a founding member of Lookout Studio.
